Watch your baker create the beautiful daily necessity which is bread.
Fort Greene creates a great atmosphere to really gain back that sense of community that bakers created before supermarkets and mass production. I love watching how easily they can manipulate the dough and how great it all looks. You can watch him bake the loaves of sourdough, baguettes and croissants right in front of you! It truly shows how great their products are and really encourages people to see the rise and form of these carbs.
Pain au chocolat was delicious!
I had the Pain au Chocolat first off from Fort Greene on a Sunday afternoon as their croissants had sold out and shared with a friend. It was delicious. Light and crispy - I only had a bite but found that it was definitely a more savoury dough and didn’t have the aftertaste that I sometimes get from croissants - and wonder if it’s the butter that they use.
Have included some IG story videos
The plain croissant was quite disappointing.. soft and not crispy at all. The layers were there so I can only assume the moisture of being in the cabinet had gotten to it. Still a nice light savoury flavour - perhaps more salt actually would help to really get the butter flavour through? Other than that I do enjoy a less sweet croissant and had it been fresh I have no doubt it would have been amazing!
The almond croissant was crisp, lashings of marzipan filled in and crispy. The toasted slivered almonds were soooo delicious and I struggled to stop myself from eating it all. Definitely my favourite out of them all. I’m yet to get a baguette or loaf as it’s either sold out or I have fresh bread at home already. Will definitely come back!
If you’re wondering about the coffee - I got an iced black coffee and it was okay. Would definitely recommend going to Daily Daily if you are in the area though. I rave a lot about them but for someone who despised coffee at one point, these guys are the ones who changed my mind to it all.
