Carb Culture

I bought the domain carbculture last year on a whim that I wanted to create a carb forum. I just renewed it for another year and decided to change my personal baking page into this instead.. this may even just become only an instagram page.

I’ve always felt the need to write, have some sort of creative outlet.. I use to have a fashion blog which I dedicated a lot of time, money, self esteem and creative energy to in my early 20s. I ended up using instagram as more of my outlet and stepped away from writing. I wanted to start a YouTube and did dabble in video creation since I was 15 lol but only very simple.

Then I co-founded a company with my cousin. I was mainly in charge of instagram, finances and recipe content, something I still do today.. a lot better for sure. The first year we launched was tough but the most motivating. I’ve learnt a lot and can definitely see myself gravitate towards photography and videography. I love creating and the idea of animated videos and imagery really excites me! As things settle in my life after a few turns and falls I am starting to actively push myself towards my creative outlet now.

I’ve been dedicated to baking for a while. I know I’m dedicated because I was absolute shit at it. I remember trying to make bread and it wouldn’t even rise lol.. given I was using expired yeast. I remember holding onto the bowl to keep it warm for over two hours. I made the best gingerbread cookies when I was 15 because I squeezed minced ginger for over half an hour into the flour to make sure it was all evenly spread.

I didn’t realise how much I loved cooking until I lost a friend and the only way I could take the emotional energy out of me was through cooking. I will never forget the feeling. I made a cottage pie that my second family use to always make and chopping, stirring and being aware of cooking times made me focus. Centred me and balanced out my thoughts. I’m no longer stuck to my phone waiting for a notification. I could see a message and still only focus on my recipe because when your food is cooking, you ain’t got time for anything but that!

Such a long winded way to say that I felt a name change made me feel more free to create and show you more of what I also make not just baked things. I am a major fan of making noodle broths, which turned into making a lot of my own ramen and naturally, the noodles themselves.

I am inspired by so many. There is a plethora of amazing forums and people creating informative and actually helpful advice. I did find it difficult to find information relevant to New Zealand so wanted to create something for us Kiwis!

I will share the things I learn and we can all deduce what we can from the floating information around us! I’ve started to get an influx of questions, which I love answering on this type of platform - I’m a bit old school.. haha. Just trying it out but there’s so much about the carb-mmunity that I love and want to learn more about.
